Starter Motor Voltage Drop Test with a voltage meter (DC) settings.
1st Motorcycle battery must be fully charged.
2nd Turn off the fuel on your motorcycle. This test you do not want the sportbike to start. You are just allowing motor to rotate (turn over) so you can get a voltage reading.
3rd Clip the meter positive and negative to battery and turn motor over for approximately 4-12 seconds. NO longer and record the voltage the meters reads. Example 9.7 volts.
4th Clip the meters positive lead to the starter positive wire side and meter's lead ground to frame of the motorcycle if you can't to the ground of the starter. Now turn motor over and record that voltage reading. Example 9.3 volts.
If you now subtract the two voltage reading from each other and the difference is less than one volt then you do not have excessive voltage drop, but if it is greater than 1 volt you need to back and check wires and positive feed of the starting system that is giving you a high voltage drop.
